Hello Everyone! Happy January!
2018 has been a great reading year and so many wonderful books came out over the past twelve months! These are some of my favourites.
Royals by Rachel Hawkins
Royals was a novel that that I really didn't plan on reading, but as soon as I started, it has become an instant favourite.
It follows the story of Daisy Miller, a normal high schooler in florida, whose elder sister is engaged to the crown prince of Scotland. When the tabloids get out of control, Daisy is forced to visit Scotland for the summer and deal with the royal life that she has been forcing to ignore.
That is all I would really want to say about this book, I think it's better to go into it without having high expectations. I also recommend the audiobook, narrated by Jennifer Van Dyck, who does an excellent job with the scottish accent, it adds to the humor and warmth of the book.
Legendary by Stephanie Garber
This book broke my heart and then pieced it back together! An empowering story about a younger sister trying to help her older sister....
Legendary is the second book of the Caraval trilogy by Stephanie Garber. Set in a stunning and alluring world of magic and mystery, you get swept by the book and before you realize it the book has ended and you can never get enough.
Caraval has one of the best worlds I have ever read about, and some of the best character arcs in YA, along with an intricate and unique plot. Stephanie's writing style is magical and truly beautiful.
If I could recommend one series for everyone to read, it would definitely be this one.
American Panda by Gloria Chao
You going to college? Well this is the perfect book for you. ok before you judge the book by the cower, please... give it a chance!!!
American Panda by Gloria Chao is one of the most underrated contemporaries. It is beautiful, funny, inspiring and just amazing.
It follows the story of Mei Lu is seventeen when she gets into MIT. Skipping fourth grade was part of her parents' master plan for a predetermined future: Become a doctor, marry a pre-approved Taiwanese boy, and carry on the family.
Mei's parents have sacrificed everything for this future, but Mei can't bring herself to follow this dream of her parents for she never liked biology, hates germs, and is a dancer at heart.
But when she reconnects with her disowned brother, her life changes to becomes a "Dumpling filled with secrets," as she struggles to live up to both her parents' expectations, and her true self.
One of the main things I enjoyed in this story is that you learn so much about Taiwanese culture, including certain words in the language, their ideology, and ultimately the struggle of someone juggling between both the American and the home cultures.
Everless by Sara Holland
Ok first of all, can we just admire both the US and UK cowers, they are just beautiful!
But anyways, the only reason I picked it up was because Stephanie Garber blurbed on it. I expected the cliche YA romance and tropes, but I got everything but that.
A timeless, dark, twisted tale full of mystery, magic and an unseen evil.

Crimes of Grindelwald by J.K. Rowling
